Lady Gators Sting Jackets 49-32 To Take a 1-0 Lead in Region Play

The Ware County Lady Gators started off the 2019 with a huge Region 2AAAAA victory over rival Wayne County last night in the Swamp. Ware handed Wayne County (11-2) just their second loss of the season and did it with great defensive effort holding the Lady Jackets to single digit scoring in three of the four quarters. The Lady Gators took a 10-8 lead after the first quarter and added 15 in the second to take a 10 point lead into the half. That is as close as the Lady Jackets were able to get as the Lady Gators out scored Wayne 17-13 in the third and 7-4 in the fourth to seal the 49-32 win.

Senior Mataea Boyd led all scorers with 23 points while Justyce Eason added 12 more. Shouveir Spaulding and DeMya Gibson added 7 and 3 points respectively while Latreona Holmes and Korianne Yawn added 2 points each. The Lady Gators have now won 4 of their last five and improve to 6-4 on the season.

The Lady Gators travel to Douglas on Tuesday to take on Coffee High at 6:00 pm.



JV RESULTS: Ware 30  Wayne 28

The Ware County JV Girls started the new year off with a win of their own edging Wayne County 30-28 in the Swamp. The two team battled toe to toe throughout the game but it was the Lady Gators who held off Wayne at the buzzer to clinch the victory.

Quashia Barnes led the Lady Gators with 10 points while I'Daja Davis and Zamaria Denton each added 4 points. Kaylee Bachoffer and Santya Patterson each added 3 points while Ronasche Fluker added two points. The JV Girls return to action January 11th as they travel to Statesboro to take on the Lady Blue Devils.
