The Ware County Lady Gator tennis team advanced to the sweet 16 in the state tournament today with a big 3-2 win over Eagle's Landing.
At first singles, Raiven Green met a very strong opponent and lost 0-6, 1-6.
At second singles, Megan Tyre played her best tennis to date, pulling away from her opponent with ease 6-3, 6-1.
At third singles, Annabeth Hatfield dominated the entire match and cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
The second doubles team of Haley Cannon and Maggie Tyre jumped out to an early lead, playing great tennis, but stumbled late, dropping their match in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 3-6.
It all came down to first doubles and seniors Jayme Russell and Kiersten Moye didn't disappoint. After winning the first set 6-2, they dropped the second 4-6. With the match on the line, they took over the third set in exciting fashion and won 6-3.
This is the second time in three years we have been to the sweet sixteen. I'm so proud of these girls and the improvement they have made throughout the course of this year. Our next match will be Monday, against Riverwood. Time is tbd.
